Random Play List

I copied this from Nanette because I have a ton of things to do today and I don’t want to forget to come here and do my daily post. No one who knows me will be surprised that no “pop” music came up on my play list. Mike’s play list would have much more varity in it but I tend to really only listen to NOLA artists. I know there is more music out there than NOLA musicians but really who needs anything else?! ;)

I also have a lot of Christmas music on my itunes so I admit I skipped all the Christmas tunes that came up after the first one. That could be an entire different post- just post the first 10 Christmas songs that shuffle up! But other than that, these are the first 10 that came up.

I also did this from my itunes not my ipod because I have a ton of podcasts on my ipod right now and not so much music.

So, the idea is to put your ipod (itunes) on shuffle and post the first 10 songs that come up and say a little something about each song. Here ya go:

Shake It and Break It-Leroy Jones-Leroy has such an incredible voice and his trumpet playing is like no other. This is a fun upbeat song that just makes you want to get up and dance!

Mardi Gras in New Orleans-
Potholes Brass Band-A popular NOLA song and I love every variation of this song. This version was recorded live at Donna’s so it’s a really lively, upbeat, energetic version and I can just visualize eveyone second lining around the bar. I can’t sit still when I hear this song!

Jingle Bells-Brian Setzer Orchestra-I love BSO. Such a fun band. I liked Brian Setzer back with he was with The Stray Cats but this is even more to my liking with the Orchestra backing him up. I saw this song performed live in 2004, I want to say? I think? It was at the Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting in NYC where Sean and I stood in front of the damn tree for 10 hours so we could see Harry perform! The BSO was one of the other acts and we actually got to hear/see them rehearse for hours. It was a lot of fun! That also reminds me I think I still have pictures in my old gallery I need to transfer over to flickr. There’s a day long project!

Washboard Lisa
-Grayson Capps-If you don’t know who Grayson Capps is, you are really missing out. He has such a haunting voice and his songs are really beautiful. It is my goal to see him live in NOLA. He no longer lives there since Katrina but he does come back to perform. This song is featured on the soundtrack for the movie “A Love Song for Bobby Long”. GREAT movie. I was hesitant to watch it but once Mike and I gave in, it became an instant favorite. We’ve watched it dozens of times now. It’s a movie that I adore but makes me sad as we watched it right before Katrina. This song is one of Mikes favorites because of the line about the A&P, his favorite place in NOLA. Which I heard was bought out and is no longer the A&P?!?!? Say it isn’t so!!!!!!!!

Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans-Rick Trolson-Another New Orleans Standard, this version by Rick Trolson who’s voice surprised me the first time I heard him sing! I’m used to just hearing Rick play his horn, but he’s got a really deep, scratchy voice that does real justice to this song.

The Saints are Coming-U2 and Greenday-Wow…this song always makes me overrun with so many emotions. This was the song performed by U2 and Greenday at the first home Saints game in 2006, first time back in the Superdome. It’s a great song and so powerful performed by U2 and Greenday. I have this as my ringtone I love it so much. This video is even more powerful. If only this was what really happened. *sigh*. It never fails to make me cry because this is what should have FN happend!

When the Saints Go Marching In-Mark Braud-Another NOLA standard performed by the incredible Mark Braud. I alway enjoyed HCJ shows when he showcases Mark by letting him sing!

Oh My NOLA-Harry Connick Jr.-Harry wrote this song after Katrina for the album of the same name to help raise money for Habitat for Humanity. This is one of my favorites from the album, its upbeat and optimistic, just like the city of New Orleans! And it’s Harry. Whats not to love about Harry?!

Happy Endings-Better Than Ezra- BTE has so many great songs, this one is just a pretty little love song. No real memories associated with this song

Come By Me- Harry Connick Jr. -Probably my most favorite HCJ song ever. (Aside from City Beneath the Sea). I have a love hate relationship with this song. Its a great song, makes you want to move! But for years this was the song Harry closed with so many of us fans came to really hate when Harry played this song as it meant it was the end of the show. Thankfully he has changed that up and we can now once again enjoy this song knowing there is still more to come!

Sorry to say you heard correctly, Lisa. I was just in Nawlins last weekend for Voodoo and the A&P is no more! I can’t remember the name of the new place, but it certainly made me do a triple take. My favorite pizza place went Mexican to boot! Times are achangin’.

Yup A&P is now owned by Rouse’s. The one on Magazine hadn’t changed it’s name on the outside nor really on the inside. The sav a centers have however. I haven’t been by the one in the quarter that Mike loves so much to be able to tell you if it changed.
